The course is accessible from Chertsey and by footpaths from nearby homes, many of which are on the Thames. The Burway on which the club sits was profitable meadows for the churches of Laleham and Chertsey and though still popularly known by those grazing horses on its fertile hides let out to coachmen and horse sellers there in the 19th century as 'Laleham Burway', St Paul's Cathedral, London which was the mother church of Laleham was forced to relinquish claims over the land receiving from the 14th century a small annual sum paid by Chertsey Abbey and its successors after litigation to the King's Bench. The Burway continues to have resonance on both sides of the river being the name of Laleham's rowing club and its annual Olympic boats rowing race.
