The borough's largest park. The park has the public riverside including the Thames Path. There are many walks, lines and small clumps of trees and a northern playground by Laleham/Shepperton Road. Until the turn of the 20th century, the private park and landscaped estate of the manor of the Earls Lucan, lords of the manor, whose 3rd Earl led the cavalry division with the light and heavy brigades fighting in the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War. The family fell into disgrace a generation after parting with Laleham, a village and parkland which Pevsner and Matthew Arnold each in their respective centuries described as very pleasant.
