Adoor (അടൂര്‍)is located about 60 km south of Kottayam and 20 km north of Kottarakara, in Pathanamthitta District. It is the home town of Adoor Gopalakrishnan, renowned moviemaker. Adoor Bhasi, a famous actor of South India, was also born here.
Lot of educational renowned institutions are working in and around adoor. Parthasarathy temple, near the Adoor KSRTC bus station, is a major shrine. Mannady, place associated with Velu Thampi Dalawa, is situated nearby. Other places of interest are Valiyakoyikkal Temple at Pandalam and the elephant cage at Konni.

The nearest airports are Trivandrum International Airport (about 92 km) and Cochin International Airport. The nearest railway station is at Chengannur (about 25 km). Pathanamthitta (16 km) is on the way to Sabarimala from Adoor. Adoor is also well linked with Kayamkulam (27 km), Pathanapuram (16 km) and Punalur (29 km).
