This school was founded in August 1896 by a group of Christian missionaries who came over from the United States. Their main objective is to expand Christianity through the education of young people. This was one of the earliest all-girls school in Malaysia. Mrs. Stratton-Brown (viweb.freehosting.net/Stratton.htm) was appointed the first headmistress of the school. In 1900, the Government appealed to the Methodist Mission (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methodist_Mission) to take over the running of the school. After the take over, the enrolment of the school started to increase.

During the Second World War, the school was used as the Japanese Military Headquarters. The school reopened in 1945 after the war.
