telecommunication, satellite/space tracking station
Built on the site of Shemya's twin White Alice Commuincations system tropospheric scatter site in the late 1970's, this station now links communications on Shemya with mainland Alaska.
The White Alice site was built here in the late 1960s as part of Project Bluegrass, part of the WACS system, and was deactivated in the late 1970s. It was built to provide a tropo shot between Shemya and Adak.
