Gaya Street (Kota Kinabalu)
Locally known as Jalan Gaya, this street lined with several pre-WW2 shophouses is one of the most historic and important roads/areas in the city. Gaya Street is very well known for its Sunday Market where parts of the street (starting from the junction at Bandaran Road all the way up to the junction at Language Road) would be closed every Sunday morning up to around 1 pm to make way for a local-style outdoor market fair where practically everything is on sale - from local handicrafts, food and beverages, to pets and plants.
The history behind Gaya Street went way back to around the 1900s when it was then named Bond Street and Dunlop Street. Today, it still retains its two-lane and two-way traffic flow. Parking spaces are aplenty on this street - the other matter is finding an empty one during peak hours or on working days. Other than that traffic is overall smooth throughout the day on this street.
