New street, originally called Olifantstraat, located in the Stationskwartier and opened according to the Royal Decree of 30.05.1865, modified according to a plan by architect F.A. Bruneel from 1875 with a new building line on the east side. So-called after the war hero from Ronse, executed by the Germans in 1917 (see memorial plaque on his house number 9).
Joseph Louis Amedee Auguste Ferrant (Ronse, 8/03/1880 - 27/08/1917) worked for the Intelligence Service during the First World War after being wounded in battle. He was executed by the Germans for this.
