Federal Highway 40

Federal Highway 40, also called the Interoceanic Highway, begins in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, west of the Port of Brownsville, Texas, and ends on Mexican Federal Highway 15, in Villa Unión, Sinaloa, (near Mazatlan and the Pacific coast ). It is called Interoceanic because since it was completed, the cities of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, in the Gulf of Mexico and Mazatlan, Sinaloa, in the Pacific Ocean, interconnected directly.
It passes through Monterrey, Nuevo León; Saltillo Coahuila; Torreón, Coahuila; Gómez Palacio, Durango; and the city of Durango, Durango. From Monterrey to Durango the road is a 4-lane highway. The rest of the road is 2 lanes. In parallel to this road, in some sections, there is the Federal Highway 40D, which is a 4-lane toll road.
