Route 4 * Siete Cañadas

This route is a part of the old Camino de Chasna, used since pre-hispanic times for crossing from the North to the South of the island. It runs along the base of the wall of the Caldera de Las Cañadas, in its eastern part. In the first section of this journey, it stands out the presence of tajinaste picante (Echium auberianum), of beautiful blue flowering in the month of June.
Under the wall of Las Cañadas, it is visible the geomorphological diversity. As an example, next to the Cañada of Diego Hernández we can observe the strips of black basalt lava, while the ones of yellowish materials correspond to acid magmas expelled in violent eruptions. In the vegetation of the escarpments the tajinaste rojo (Echium wildpretii) highlights, whose floral stems occasionally reach two meters in height.
In the final stretch of the path, the Cañada del Capricho stands out with forms of great beauty. Throughout the tour you will find traces of shepherd refuges and different views of Mount Teide.
This long path can be connected with the guagua (local name of the bus) at its beginning or end, since there are bus stops in El Portillo and in the Parador Nacional. It is advisable to previously consult the timetables.
