"What a beautiful horizon!" said Pope John Paul II, facing the urban landscape seen from Praça Israel Pinheiro, at the highs of Mangabeiras. After the mass in the open area, in 1980, the square started to be named as the Pope Squate, where an iron monument has been erected as a tribute to the honourable visitor.
