Chicago Motor Speedway was a short-lived automobile racing oval track that opened in 1999, and closed in 2002. The city of Cicero bought the land the following year, and razed the buildings and track. The project was financed by a group including CART team owner Chip Ganassi, but the races were not successful, which was not helped by nearby Chicagoland Speedway, which was much more popular with the fans.
This curiosity is one of the shortest-lived "permanent" auto racing facilities in the United States.
