Pictou Harbour

Canada / Nova Scotia / Pictou /
 water, seaport

A salt-water estuary located in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. The harbour receives fresh-water inflow from the West, Middle and East Rivers, and continues eastward, emptying into the Northumberland Straight. The town of Pictou overlooks the estuary from which it generates commerce through fishing, shipbuilding and tourism. Recreational yachting is prevalent in the summer months. Double-breasted cormorants nest here in great numbers on abandoned pier and bridge posts, migrating yearly from the south.

A vehicle causeway traverses the harbour, connecting the town of Pictou to Abercrombie Point and the towns of Trenton and New Glasgow. The Neenah Paper Mill situated on Abercombie Point and overlooking the harbour is a convenient landmark for boaters.
