The so-called Sleeping Giant is a system of rocky ridges in Hamden, CT, and the focus of a state park comprising a few square miles and including about 30 mile of hiking trails. The park's main entrance is directly across the Mt. Carmel Avenue from Quinnipiac University.

The profiles of the ridges suggest, when viewed from the south, a mile-or-so-tall human figure, lying on its back, with head pointing west and feet east. Extending this idea, ridge areas are identified with parts of the body, with the head and chest being both the best defined and among the most visited.
