Originally constructed in the 11th century BC, Luoyang was the capital of the Eastern Han dynasty. For many centuries, this city held the title of China's most important city. And today, Luoyang is considered to be one of the cradles of Chinese civilization and is named as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China.

Modern-day Luoyang is a prefecture-level city in western Henan province. It administers 6 districts (Jianxi, Xigong, Laocheng, Chanhe, Luolong, and Jili), 1 county-level city (Yanshi), and 8 counties (Mengjin, Xin'an, Luoning, Yiyang, Yichuan, Song, Luanchuan, and Ruyang).
