Ecum Secum is a rural community straddling the boundary between Guysborough County and Halifax Regional Municipality. Located on Ecum Secum Harbour, the community is tied to the fishing industry. Several communities in Halifax County to the west also share the name, including including Ecum Secum Bridge and Ecum Secum West. Its name is derived from the Mi'kmaq language and means "a red house".
