  From the 1970s till the early 1990s this center was financed by Japan and named Japanese Agricultural Development Project (JADP) with focus on drilling deep tubewells for irrigation in this region. In the 1990s it was handed over to DOA and renamed Janakpur Agricultural Development Project also for deep tubewell development. In 2019 this center was renamed by DOA as Agricultural Machinery Training Center (AMTC) which in addition to the deep tubewell development also being developed as one of three planned "National" training centers for extension training on agriculture various agricultural machinery.
