Dhanushadham Protected Forest is 8th Protected Forest of Nepal. The area with 360 Hectare forest land is having 18 Hectare wetland area including origination point of Ban Ganga river. This area holds a prominent value in Hindu religion where a piece of Pinak Dhanush (Lord Shiva's Bow) has been fallen when King Janak announced to marry his daughter Goddess Sita with a person who can lift the Pinak Bow. No one could lift the Bow accept Lord Ram. While lifting the heavy weighted Bow had broken into Three pieces, one side fallen to Rameshwaram, India, one side piece into Dhanush Lake in Janakpur dham and central part here at Dhanushadham inside this forest.
More than One million Hindu pilgrims visit this place every year and is a favorite pilgrimage site of Hindi religion.
Mithila Wildlife Trust has been working here to develop this site as an eco-tourism destination since 2013. The forest has recently been announced as Illicit felling and Grazing Free Zone by Honorable Secretary, Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Government of Nepal.
