Protestant Congregational Christian Church founded in 1847 as Plymouth Church and built in 1849 from designs by J.C. Wells. This Congregational Church became a Center of anti-slavery sentiment preceding the Civil War. Henry Ward Beecher was its First Minister. 1847-1887. Abraham Lincoln worshiped here twice in 1860. The church was named a National Historic Landmark in 1966.

Behind the pulpit and organ is an anonymous white door that leads to a narrow secret staircase. Underneath the church is a system of chambers and tunnels, that is said to be the hiding place for escaping slaves as part of the underground railroad.
