The two connected buildings were constructed and incorporated into the fortification system by Rodolfo Vantini in 1828. Each of the buildings is based on a square plan and features loggias on three sides.
The gate received it's name because of the direction that it faces. In the past, it was directly connected to the road leading to Vienna.
