This was the location of the camp occupied by women collectively known as Peace Women or Greenham Protestors. They camped at the entrance to the camp as a form of protest and generally harassed the GIs. They felt that their presence helped bring attention to the cause of peace and their objection to nuclear weapons that "may or may not" have been present.
