Bald Knob, at an elevation of 4,842 feet, is the second highest point in West Virginia. Located 11 miles up the mountain from Cass, the train ride round-trip takes five hours. The Bald Knob area has a climate similar to Canada and is abundant in plants typical to the Canadian wilderness. The spectacular view from atop the overlook at Bald Knob provides a view into two states. The train will stop at Whittaker station.

Nestled in the mountains of West Virginia, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park offers excursions that transport you back in time and let you relive an era when steam-driven locomotives were an essential part of everyday life.

The Cass Scenic Railroad was built in 1901 and used to haul lumber to the mill in Cass. The locomotives are the same ones that were used in Cass and in the lumber industry for more than a half-century. The passenger cars are old logging flat-cars refurbished and made into passenger cars. Groups can rent their own car. Small groups of 10 or fewer can rent their own caboose for a special treat kids are sure to enjoy.
