Zvishavane is a mining town in Midlands Province, Zimbabwe. Formerly called Shavani, its name is derived from Shavani, a Ndebele word meaning finger millet or trading together. It has a population of 35,000.

  • I passed through here in 1976 on my way from Victoria Falls to the Zimbabwe ruins. It was said to have the highest beer comsumption in Southern Africa. I had a glass and said' "This tastes like Coors". A guy at the end of the bar said, "You must be from the Colorado School of Mines." True enough. He had graduated 10 years ahead of me.
