Westpark Golf Club was a challenging, public 18-hole facility located in the center of Loudoun County. After being open for about 50 years, the course had been up for sale in 2017 while remaining open to the public. Despite not having attracted a firm buyer, the club closed abruptly in September 2019.

Cal-Atlantic Homes and Lennar, both national home builders, had expressed interest in the property, and the latter had gone as far as planning a potential 96-unit townhome community, which would have occupied the area where the clubhouse sat. Under their plans, the remainder of the course's land would be handed over to the Town of Leesburg to be maintained as open space. Forceful objections by nearby residents and the town caused Lennar to back away from their potential purchase.

At the end of 2020, the mayor of Leesburg approached Loudoun County for assistance in purchasing the property, as its likely cost could not be borne by the town of Leesburg alone. The hope of the Leesburg Town Council is to purchase the land with county assistance and open it to the public as a passive park.
