Sarawak Energy Berhad, the Sarawak electricity supply company, awarded a contract in July 2008 to the Three Gorges company to build another hydroelectric dam in addition to Bakun. This will cause the resettlement of 1,000 Penan who were nomadic until as recently as the late 1960s.
This dam is one of twelve being planned for Sarawak.
