Currently a strip mall, the Northway Mall was an indoor shopping mall that opened in 1970 and was closed and demolished in 1999 when it was replaced by the current plaza.

The original Mall anchor stores were Almart's and Korvette's however both of these stores were closed by the early 1980's. Later anchors were Montgomery Ward and Marshall's. The anchors for the current plaza are Target and Marshall's.

In addition to the indoor mall the Northway Mall had several stores in free-standing buildings including a BJ's Wholesale Club, Lechmere, and Hoyt's Cine 10 movie theater behind the mall and a Chuck E. Cheese in front of the mall along Central Ave. The BJ's is still open and the Chuck E. Cheese building is now a Staples, the Lechmere and Hoyt's buildings were eventually demolished to make room for a Lowe's Home Improvement Store.
