The club was organized in Akron, Ohio in 1962 as the Goodyear Model Aircraft Club (GMAC), through the Goodyear Employees Activities Department. Over the years, the number of non-Goodyear related members grew to a higher percentage than Goodyear employees. In November 1993, the (GMAC) club voted to break away from Goodyear sponsorship and at the January 1994 meeting, the club name was changed to Corsair Model Aircraft Club (CMAC). The Corsair Model Aircraft Club is one of the larger model aviation clubs in the United States with a membership of approximately 240.
