Chippewa Lake is something of a rarity in Ohio: a naturally occurring lake.

The glaciers that moved across the northern US in the last ice age scoured most of Ohio flat, so most of the lakes in the state are man made - the result of damming streams and rivers in the 20th century. Chippewa Lake is an exception.

It has been a popular picnic and meeting spot since the 1840's, and for 100 years an amusement park operated on its shores.

  • My dad, mom and I use to go there on dad's company picnic when I was little, I still remember the space ship ride flying over the lake. That was back when Fruehauf trailer had a plant in Avon or Avon Lake, Ohio.
