Former home of the 680th Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron. The Air Force began operating at this northern-tier site in April 1952. The 680th AC&W Squadron was deactivated on 1 July 1960, but would be reborn the following year as the 680th Radar Squadron (SAGE) at Palermo AFS (site Z-54) in New Jersey. This station at Yaak was converted into an unmanned gap-filler radar site in 1960, and redesignated SM-151E.

The radar site is gone, and the blacktop road serving it was scarified after site deactivation. Hensley Hill has an elevation of 4972 feet, and access to the summit can still be made by starting near the Yaak school on Forest Service Road 5879, merging onto road 5886, and then on to 5892, which switchbacks up to the site.

Yaak AFS received its mail from Bonner’s Ferry, ID; about 40 miles away.
