  • Place was great..Used to go there as a kid with my parents..was high dollar only good nights..
  • i've never been there when it was the tavern, but now it is a pretty good italian place called angela's
  • This restaurant was absolutely amazing. It was the best restaurant in the entire area, and the chef was a true culinary genius. There is no restaurant in the Fredericksburg area that will ever come close to the Olde Mudd Tavern.
  • Stopped for dinner in about 1989, based on a recommendation from an antique shop further to the south. Great relishes with the home made breads. I had an oyster-stuffed filet - wonderful - yes, I still remember it after all these years.
  • My wife and I visited the OMT several times in the early 80s. They'd bring out several small loaves of various breads and the meals got better from there. We spoke with the owners, a married couple and he was the chef. They were related to Dr. Samuel Mudd of Lincoln's time. I assume they retired and closed. I hope they realize they had a special place, different and intimate and worth every moment and penny. Good memory--it is always too bad that some things can't go on forever.
  • I had my wedding dinner at the Olde Mudd Tavern on Valentine's Day 1986 after eloping to Fredericksburg. To this day, the memories of that wonderful restaurant, the chalkboard in the entry that had the specials that the owners added our married names to, the basket of the most wonderful selections of breads I've ever had, the Beef Wellington and the Mississippi Mud Pie for dessert are as fresh as if they happened yesterday. In fact - the memories outlastthe marriage by a few years! LOL. I was so sorry to see that the restaurant had closed by the time we had our children as I'd always hoped to take them to this jewel of a restaurant in the middle of tiny Thornburg. I guess good things never last.
  • I used to play the harp there on Saturday nights. At the end of one evening, I said to the owner, "I didn't know you had a baby," because I had heard one crying earlier. (The owners lived above the restaurant and they had a couple of smallish children.) She said, "We don't. You heard the ghost baby. We hear it crying sometimes. It died in this house."
