  • Is it the airbase (code name Sokol) Maj. Gennadie Osipovich, pilot of Sukhoi 15 Flagon (SU-15) interceptor operated during the infamous day of September 1st 1983? (the shootdown of Korean Boeing 747-200B KL 007)
  • Sokol airfield is much to the south of Sakhalin island. There are many versions on what happened that day. According to one of them, he was operating Mig-31, participated in dogfight against massive american reconaissance invasion mission, during which all american aircrafts were shot down. Osipovich has shot down at least 2 of those, one of which is apparently RC-135 aircraft. Korean KAL-007 was destroyed near Niigata city, japanese coast, presumabely by americans or japanese self-defence air forces as they could not define whether it was a civil or war airplane heading Japan.
