ESSU-Salcedo is part of the province's state university system. It was famously named Southern Samar Agricultural College (SSAC), and then Southern Samar College of Agriculture, Science and Technology (SSCAST), before integrated to the present University System.
R.A. 8292, enacted on June 6, 1997, mandated the Commission on Higher Education – supervised higher education institute of the province to be integrated into a state college or university system. As ESSC was the only existing state college in the province, the Felipe Abrigo National Memorial College of Arts and Trades (FANMCAT) in Guiuan, the Southern Samar College of Agriculture, Science and Technology (SSCAST) in Salcedo, and the Can-avid National Agricultural College (CNAC) in Can-avid were integrated into the Eastern Samar State College in Borongan, and each of the above schools were renamed ESSC – Guiuan, ESSC – Salcedo and ESSC – Can-avid.
On August 7, 2004, the university conversion came into reality when R.A. 9312 was signed into law by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. This conversion added another campus to the university system. The former Maydolong National Agricultural School in the town of Maydolong, is now called ESSU Maydolong and is the fourth external campus of ESSU.

  • Greetings to Salcedo, E. Samar friends!!I have been following up the development of E. Samar including efforts to improve this beautiful part of the earth. In 1996 I visited SSAC (thanks to Mr. Quirino Macasil). The plantation of Jackfruit Trees "Langka" and 3 big trees of "Nimm Tree" impressed me more. If there will be commercial quantity of Jackfruits, this can be a source of income for the Filipinos because this can be processed for Export. Nimm Tree leaves (raw material for "Katol" can be used as Bio Insecticide. The Farmers do not have to buy insccticides. Besides, this is beneficial to the Environment. Parts of the Nimm tree has many uses (including medicine) practiced in India. Hoping that the land owners of E.Samar in foreign countries instruct their relatives to have their idle lands planted. No College Diploma is needed to have the seeds grow.Seedlings, I think are provided by ESSU & Dept. of Agri. Since then, I have been encouraging our "Kababayans" to plant Jackfruit and Pili Trees. If done even in their backyards, this will result to commercial quantity for export, similar to Mangoes. Pili Nuts, I think, can only be found in the Phil.
  • This is Arnulfo L. Araneta presently working at OLOPSC, Marikina (Private School). as a Coordinator of Student Discipline. He finished his degree at SSAC as Agricultural Education major in Agromony. I'm telling you proudly that I'm a good product of one of the best school in Eastern Samar. My almater, thought me good values such as honesty, industriousness, obedient and love of work. So, to those who are aspiring to have a good position in any endeavor, treasure all the good teaching of your school then you will reap a good harvest. Mabuhay sa aking mahal na school.
