  • The Pearl District is part of downtown Portland, and it is growing very quickly, with the rise of the Civic towers. The property values are increasing exponentially. Also, the Pearl hold Lincoln High School, easily the best public school in greater Portland.
  • Lincoln is not in the Pearl District.
  • Overrated.
  • The Pearl is one of the best place to live in and its really beautiful. Portland is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been in my entire life.
  • The Pearl District is gentrification personified. Poor people have been moved out for the rich.
  • "byzinski" has it right...when the neighborhood is considered a ghetto, you can't get yer garbage picked up, the rats exterminated or the streets paved...but when the fashionistas, trendies and hamster-haired yups decide to invade, scooping up the core housing for pennies on the dollar, all bets are off. Scoop it cheap, toss out the po' folks (who are renters anyway; screw 'em!), slap on some paint, landscaping and granite countertops, sellout to the highest (sucker) bidder and we're off to the next flip-fest! Bastards...welcome to the New Century of Greed!
  • kbro and byinski are both wrong, the pearl district development has included affordable sliding scale rent apartments right along with the condos. The new focus for the development commission and the further development of the north pearl will be affordable family housing along with condos, office space, and more retail.
  • Zooks is wrong. Sliding scale apartments start out of reach for low-income working people (poor people). That's the whole idea...start the 'sliding scale' at what?...800..900..1000..a month so that low income can not move in. Affordable family apartments? What...single working people do not have a right to live in a livable neighborhood. I should say more like over $1000+ a month.
  • I edited the boundaries according to the Neighborhood Association map: http://www.portlandonline.com/oni/index.cfm?c=35281
  • I met this little old lady who was from Ireland while riding the street car from PSU to Central library. When I asked her where she lived she replied, "Oh, I live in the Puddle" (which is how someone from Ireland pronounces Pearl, I guess). I thought it was cute. lol
