museum, Roman Empire, celtic
This archaeological site dates to the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and was briefly a Roman town. It was apparently abandoned in favor of Roman Virunum. The ancient name of the site is unclear. The most popular theory is that it is to be identified with Noreia, but it is also possible that it was named Virunum, like the later city.
