This village was founded by Armenian refugees from Van in Turkey.
It existed during 1932-1975 and was depopulated under Saddam Hussein Regime. It was later rebuilt and the church restored in 2000/01.
The village currently has a population of 560 Kurdish-speaking Armenians Christians.
