Very spiritual area for more than 2000 years. Rock inscriptions can be found in few locations. Read "25 Years of life in the jungle" by Ven. Thambugala Ananda Siri who lived here from 1954 and rebuilt many cave dwellings into well to live quarters with rainwater provisions. No electricity. Elephants, black bears, leopards, wild boars, deer, forest chickens, crocodiles, snakes, gibbons, hornbills etc. share this remote area with a few forest monks in meditation. Great views from many rock hills.

  • As a Dutch forest Bhikkhu(Buddhist Monk)ordained in Thailand, I have been living at Kudimbigala for six weeks around March 2007. This was my most impressive experience in solitude during my nine years ordination, sharing with two other extremely kind Sri Lankan Bhikkhus. Endless jungle as far as you can see from the rocks full of wildlife. The most life threatening comes from (human)tigers (LTTE). So sorry !!
