Middle Harbor Shoreline Park is built on the site of the former Oakland Naval Supply Depot, an important supply center for the Navy's Pacific Fleet from World War II. The park includes 38 shoreline acres and was built by the Port of Oakland and is operated by the East Bay Regional Park District. The park has more than two miles of pathways encircling Middle Harbor Basin. The location was once tidal wetlands before decades of development throughout the last century. The Port of Oakland and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are working on a project to restore shallow wildlife habitats to Middle Harbor. The 180-acre Middle Harbor Enhancement Area adjacent to Middle Harbor Shoreline Park will restore shallow water habitat and provide habitat enhancement.

  • A fantastic park with expansive views, plenty of room for walking and play and nicely preserved historic remnants of the the rail and docking structures serving the San Francisco Bay ferries. A relatively new park that is still largely undiscovered by local residents. (11/22/08)
