The Northern Snowglacier (Nördliche Schneeferner) is the largest German glacier with a surface of 31 ha (2006). In average the ice layer is 17 meter thick and 52 meter at the thickest location. At an average height of 2640 m it is higher than the other German glaciers Höllentalferner, Watzmannglacier and Blaueis ('Blue Ice'). It runs from west to east and especially at the lower side the slope is very mild. (Translation by Martin Borsje)
