    Padmanath Gohain Baruah is the father figure of Assamese literature. Wrote the first Assamese novel Lahori. Wrote numerous novels & dramas based on varied subjects like social drama, mythology, religion, comedy etc. Associated with and founded many magazines & journals. Became the first president of the literary organization Assam Sahitya Sabha. First Assamese person to receive the title 'Raibahadur' conferred by the British. First Assamese recipient of the literary pension.
