park, forest, neighbourhood

Het Kralingse Bos (the forest of Kralingen) is a large urban wood in eastern Rotterdam, surrounding de Kralingse Plas (the pond of Kralingen). It is a leftover from the many manmade lakes that were dug out in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the early 20th century, it was proposed to develop a woody landscape here, the forest opened officially in 1953.
