Tiengemeten is an island in the Haringvliet at some 24 km (15 mi.) south west of the city of Rotterdam. The island is a part of the municipality of Korendijk in the Dutch province of South Holland and has a population of about a dozen inhabitants. Until 1997, Tiengemeten way chiefly used for agricultural purposes, but ever since it is being redeveloped to become a wildlife area. On 10 May 2007 the island had officially been given back to nature – all inhabitants have been relocated and nature is left undisturbed. Website: www.tiengemeten.com
