The rock appears to be gleaming white due to the heavy layer of guano that has built up over the centuries.
In 1997 two bright young fellows attempted to swim to this rock from Pirates Cove. One of them turned back. The other made it to the rock but on the return trip he pooped out and washed up on shore near South Point. He was arrested for public nudity and public intoxication. He claims he was not intoxicated, but simply unable to communicate with the police at the time of his arrest due to hypothermia. (Yeah, they all say that.)
