The swap meet was located here until development encroached in the early 1990s. The swap meet is now across town and a shopping plaza is located here.

  • Actually, this was the second location of the Tanque Verde Swap Meet. It was originally located on the opposite (South) side of Tanque Verde Road just about where a Red Lobster Restaurant sits today. I remember going there as a kid, and there were a couple of things about it which have stuck in my mind. From what I remember, the original location had a bowling alley on it before the swap meet, and I believe that building had burnt down. When you walked the aisles of the original TVSM you could see where the bowling lanes had been. The other thing I remember is the snack bar was operated out of an old Airstream trailer and it's the only eating establishment that I ever saw that was actually operating with a "B" grading permit. Guess most folks didn't mind the grit and grime or roaches?
