Lajitas Resort, 22 miles east of the western entrance to Big Bend National Park and 45 miles east of Big Bend Ranch State Park. The developer purchased an entire old western town at auction -- Lajitas was once the military headquarters for General "Blackjack" Pershing as he hunted Mexican revolutionary leader Pancho Villa over the border. The ghost town has been preserved in detail, right down to its wooden sidewalks, saloons and shops, and the Cavalry Post and Officers Quarters have lovingly been restored into hotel rooms.
