Backus is a city in sections 30 and 31 of Powers Township, Cass County, Minnesota. The population was 262 at the 2020 census.

Backus was incorporated as a village in 1902, and reincorporated in 1910 when it separated from the township. Several railroads terminated their lines in Backus, which had grain elevators, a creamery, and a number of mills, including the tow mill of the American Grass Twine Company. It has had a post office since 1896.

  • this is or at least last time i passed thru. was the home base of Scamp Trailors. as well as a large junkyard sales that is next door to Scamp. warning. the owners of the junk place does not bargain. and their prices are high.
