The 115,000 sf Adams County Prison is located on a 184-acre County-owned site. This new correctional facility replaced the County's overcrowded, antiquated 1947 vintage prison. The facility consists of two buildings, the main correctional facility of approximately 93,000 sf, and a separate lower security work release facility of approximately 22,000 sf.

Housing is provided for 335 inmates initially and with proper planning all cells have been sized to accommodate double bunking as a means of future expansion without expanding the footprint of the building. This first phase of expansion permitted the County to house up to 427 inmates.
