The Universiade Pavilion, better known as "the Butterdome", is one of three buildings which make up the Van Vliet Physical Education and Recreation Centre. Built in 1983 for the World Universiade Games and the University's 75th Anniversary, the Pavilion is an amazing facility containing not only full-scale facilities for track and field events, but also facilities for numerous other sports ranging from basketball to European handball. It is frequently the host of varying competitions and tournaments from across the province, and is also used by thousands of students and staff for intramural activites. Called the butterdome due to its bright yellow colour & squareness/round corners.
