It’s eight thirty in the morning, I’m in the middle of Shropshire and I’m looking for a pub. This is the Kynnersley Arms in Leighton. A couple of miles down the road is Ironbridge where most people recon the Industrial Revolution began. And hidden in the bowels of this pub right underneath me here is something that might have just have helped kickstart that revolution.

And this is it. It may not look much now, but 300 years ago this place would have been full of noise and activity and the most incredible heat. Because this was a blast furnace used for making iron. We know the kind of things they would have made, things like these cannonballs, but how exactly did they make them. Because something may have been happening here that changed the course of Industrial history forever.

Time Team have been called in to unlock the secrets of Leighton’s hidden furnace. And we’ve got just three days to do it.
