Dedicated to the hero Amphiaraos toward the end of the fifth century BCE, this complex included a long stoa, a theater, a temple, a bath area, possibly a dormitory or hostel, a large residential area, and a klepsedra, or water clock. The oracular shrine was also famous as a place of healing in the ancient world.
The Amphiaraeion is an archeological site in Attica. Situated on a hill about 6 km southeast of Oropos northwestern bit of Kalamos. There sanctuary and oracle dedicated to the mythical hero Amphiaraos. Founded in the 5th century BC when the region of Oropos belonged to the Athenians. In space and operated oracle infirmary. An important property of the archaeological site is the ancient theater. Built in the 2nd century BC He was stone with wooden seats. It had a capacity of over 300 seats and survives in good condition just the scene.
In front of the stage of the theater is the great gallery, width 11 and 110 meters in length with a total of 39 Doric columns. There were separate bathrooms on both ends of the gallery for men and women. Near the temple there was a marble hourglass (water clock), a rare archaeological sample.
