Varvarka Gate Square.
Here in the 1534-1538 was built the Kitai Gorod wall and tower with gates were built along Varvarka or Barbara Street. In the 1920s at the area of the Varvarka Gate became Varvarka Gate Square. In 1924-1990 the area was called Nogine square — in memory of the Soviet figure Victor Pavloviche Nogine (1878—1924). In 1992 a part of the area adjoining a monument to Cyril and Methodius (creators of slavic writing)
