The city was incorporated in 1967 through the consolidation of three separate towns: Leaksville, Spray, and Draper. Due to this and the history of the town, several small historic downtown areas have opened up, such as Leaksville, which has tried to become a tourist attraction.

  • The subordinate town of Spray was the birthplace of the first commercial production of calcium carbide. I believe that this process had more influence on the World than all the other things and people combined.
